The abortion pill is a SAFE & EFFECTIVE method for an abortion through 10 weeks.
A combination of 2 types of medications is used to end a pregnancy.
How the medication abortion works
A combination of 2 medications is used to end a pregnancy. The first medication will be taken on the day of your appointment in the presence of your trusted doctor. This blocks the hormone progesterone which sustains a pregnancy. Without this hormone, the endometrial lining and the developing pregnancy shrinks from the uterine wall.
The second medication, which you will take at home, causes uterine cramping and bleeding, expelling the ended pregnancy. You may also experience symptoms of light fevers, chills, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
What to Expect
PREPARE
- appointments may last 2-3 hours
- you may bring one support person/ NO CHILDREN

LAB
- urine pregnancy test, weight, height, blood pressure, pulse and finger stick for hemoglobin count and RH typing
ULTRASOUND
- Transvaginal ultrasound to determine gestation
- If unable to visualize pregnancy during the ultrasound we will discuss options/next steps
PATIENT EDUCATION
- If telehealth not completed- our trained and compassionate educator will talk you through how the process will be at home, what to expect, aftercare, follow-ups and if requested they can discuss birth control options after your abortion.
MEDICATION
- Medications necessary to complete this process will be provided at your appointment. Based on your doctor additional medications may be prescribed to your preferred pharmacy to help alleviate nausea or pain.
FOLLOW-UP
- After two (2) weeks you will complete your follow-up wellness report/ This can be completed online, by phone. In person follow-up will be determined based on your report.
- After four (4) weeks you will take a urine, hCG hormone test at home (provided by us). In person follow-up may be determined based on your results.
