Let’s get 21 for ’21!

Access to abortion and other forms of reproductive healthcare is essential.  We’re proud to have taken the proper precautions in order to remain open through the pandemic — while looking out for the safety of our patients and staff!

While we’re very happy that Virginia passed the Reproductive Health Protection Act (RHPA) and enacted it in July of this year, the cost of abortion care is challenging for many — and since public insurance and many private insurance plans will not cover this safe procedure, it leaves many looking for resources to help.  FCHC is thankful for organizations which help our patients by funding abortion care.

This year — as we’re (finally!) towards the end of 2020 and heading to 2021, we’d like to see at least 21 of our followers show their support for abortion access by contributing to local abortion funds!  We invite you to let us know by commenting on our posts (on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) and sharing them!  Let us know how you’re supporting those who choose abortion!

Here are four amazing organizations which help our patients:

Access to Reproductive Care and Health (ARCH) is a diverse group with a vision to ensure that those in our community who are seeking reproductive care have access despite their financial status. Time and time again, the financial burdens have proven to be an immense roadblock for some. The idea of ARCH Patient Fund began in July 2009 when a garden in Falls Church was dedicated to the memory of Dr. George Tiller. Donations were made in his name and ARCH was created to aid those in Northern Virginia who need financial help with family planning. You can donate by mail or through Paypal, and you can also designate them as a beneficiary through Amazon Smile.

The DC Abortion Fund (DCAF) is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit that makes grants to pregnant people in the DC area, as well as those traveling to the area, who cannot afford the full cost of an abortion. Working to make reproductive choice a reality, DCAF case managers work directly with area clinics and funds around the country to provide small grants that fill the gap between what patients can afford and the full cost of their procedure. Please consider donating — and save December 17 for their annual holiday party (virtually this year)!

Blue Ridge Abortion Fund is headquartered in Central Virginia and has been serving individuals in the Commonwealth who need help paying for abortion care since 1989. Funding abortion is an act of radical care that affirms our belief that all community members should have the agency and the resources to make their own decisions about their bodies. BRAF’s origin story involves a pickle jar at the county fair set out to help pay for a patient’s abortion in Charlottesville, and it has now grown into so much more!

The Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project seeks to further Reproductive Justice by providing practical and financial support for abortion services in Virginia and surrounding communities. RRFP strives to be a resource to the community by engaging in grassroots advocacy for the full spectrum of reproductive rights.  They support access to a range of reproductive choices. Clients’ decisions when or whether to become parents are equally supported. RRFP’s mission lends specific focus to assisting people facing financial and institutionalized barriers to abortion services.

Please visit these organizations’ websites and learn about them — and consider giving to make abortion access a reality!
